Minimally-invasive surgery to the skull base
Surgery to the skull base covers the extirpation of tumour and non-tumour injuries that develop below the brain just where it sits on the bone. The part of the bone on which the brain sits is called the skull base.
It is an area that is very difficult to access, which is in very close contact with the main arteries that irrigate the brain and different structures.
In recent years, a surgical technique has been developed that consists of operating on the skull base through the nostrils, using endoscopes. This type of minimally-invasive surgery is carried out in highly specialised centres with an expert team of ENT specialists and brain surgeons.
